Many pregnant women are desperate to know the gender of the baby in their tummy and keen to try any gender prediction method in an attempt to find out. Stories passed down through generations, turned into Old Wives Tale gender prediction. Old wives tales are commonly tried and tested by pregnant mothers in hope of revealing the secret.
However, when you hear the words ‘old wives tale’ its quite easy to quickly dismiss them as folk law. Research has been undertaken on quite a number of the more commonly told tales and you might be surprised with some of the results. Many have shown they can be an indicator for gender. We have placed a * before the Old Wives Tales that may have research to confirm them as a way for gender prediction.
Proven or disproven, you can have fun trying them out for yourself as long as you don’t take the gender prediction to seriously. Be aware though some of the old wives tales are a little strange!

Fetal heart rate and gender
Old wives tale Gender prediction No. 01
The gender of your baby can be predicted by the speed its heart is beating. If it’s beating at more than 140bpm then it is a baby girl, if it’s beating lower than 140bpm it’s a baby boy. Read the full tale about fetal heart rate and gender.

Step 1, take your wedding band and attach it to a length of cotton. Step 2, lie down on your back and have a partner/friend dangle the ring over your belly. The ring should start to swing/move. So should we listen to old wives tales when it comes to gender prediction?
Most of them don’t do any harm and can be a fun way to try and predict your baby’s gender. The likelihood of them actually giving you a correct decision, well you will have to draw your own opinion on this. Many people swear blind to their accuracy.
As we mentioned at the beginning of this article, most of the old wives tales and gender prediction methods seem to stem from common side effects and symptoms of just being pregnant. When pregnant you may not suffer from all of the commonly known symptoms or side effects. Does this mean it’s your body’s way of telling you the gender of your baby?
Something we haven’t discussed yet, are those ladies who are on there second or third or forth (and so on) pregnancies. They might be experiencing different symptoms this time which leads them to believe, using old wives tales, that they are having a different gender baby than previously. No one pregnancy is the same and symptoms can be very different from one person or even one pregnancy to the next. Having no spots with your first 3 babies then on your fourth the sudden development of a mountain-sized pimple doesn’t necessarily coincide with you now being pregnant with a girl.
